Environmental Manager – Permitting & Consents
New Job Opportunity – Initially 6 Month Contract – Inside IR35 – Negotiable rate based on experience – Hybrid (flexible as required).
Description
This role supports the Senior Environmental Manager in ensuring that the client’s New Futures strategy is central to the BTNO project and that environmental sustainability and DCO compliance are met.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review compliance with DCO requirements and develop actions to address any gaps.
- Develop and update DCO Management Plans, ensuring works align with these plans.
- Identify regulatory consents, permits and licences required, working with consultants and clients to obtain them.
- Ensure working practices comply with conditions of these permissions.
- Provide advice, support and direction to operational teams to deliver environmentally compliant projects and sustainable opportunities.
- Support and direct a team of ES Advisors.
- Draft environmental sustainability documents for site ES teams during project delivery.
- Review ES content in construction methodologies, risk registers, programmes and other project deliverables.
- Report on good practices and investigate and report on environmental incidents.
- Take part in lessons‑learnt exercises and propose improvements.
- Work with the Senior ES Manager to promote Zero Harm objectives and continuous performance improvement.
- Support learning and development teams through sustainability training sessions and leadership presentations.
- Inspire individuals across the group to adopt sustainable practices.

- Support compliance with company policies and processes.
Essential Qualifications
- Exceptional communication and relationship‑management skills, with strong influence and coaching ability.
- Relevant degree or equivalent in an environmental discipline.
- Thorough working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and consenting regimes.
- Strong knowledge of the construction sector, preferably utilities.
- Experience working with clients and regulators on compliance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of sustainability and its impact on the built environment.
- Comfortable supporting experts in sustainability areas and potentially expertise in one or more areas.
- Programme‑management experience with a structured approach to organising and documenting progress.
- Strong influencing and technical‑document translation skills.
- Background in assessing environmental hazards and mitigation mechanisms.
- Professional, pragmatic team player who builds effective relationships.
- Commercial awareness of contracting and subcontractor management.
- Valid driving licence.
- Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
Desirable Qualifications
- Appropriate IEMA level or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Working knowledge of E&S Management systems.
- GIS knowledge and working experience (ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Experience delivering against CEEQUAL/BREEAM.
