Job summary

Tchdnow is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist to inspect and evaluate compliance across health and safety programs, including food protection, pools, schools, and waste management. The role involves documenting findings in electronic systems and collaborating with senior specialists to enforce public health laws.

Responsibilities include emergency response, credential maintenance, and participation in workgroups, with a strong emphasis on technical guidance and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Requires Baccalaureate Degree in environmental science, electronics, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, physical sciences, public health, or related field with approved science courses.
• Active Environmental Health Specialist License from the Ohio Department of Health and willingness to maintain.
• Must be computer proficient in a heavily computerized PC environment using Microsoft Office and database applications, including web-based collaboration tools.
• Must have a valid Ohio driver's license with good driving record.
• Must sign and abide by nicotine-free hiring policy.
• Must successfully complete drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, investigates, and evaluates compliance with rules and regulations, documenting work in electronic systems across multiple program areas.
• Collaborates with Environmental Health Specialists of higher classification to enforce laws and provide technical assistance and training.
• Works with community groups to identify and mitigate public health hazards.
• Participates in workgroups and committees.
• Reseaches public health issues and prepares written recommendations and summaries.
• Maintains documentation per department policy.
• Responds to public health emergencies.
• Maintains credentials, skills, and training in environmental health science and technology.
