Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council in Welwyn Garden City is recruiting a qualified Environmental Health Officer to join the Environmental Protection Team. The role is hybrid, 37 hours per week, with a permanent contract and starting salary £47,907, rising to £51,246 through increments.
You will investigate and regulate across the borough, liaise with businesses, provide advisory services, and take proportionate enforcement action to protect public health and the environment.
In this role, you will play a key part in protecting public health and responding to complaints and service requests across the borough.
You will work with a wide range of businesses and stakeholders, providing clear advice, taking proportionate enforcement action, and contributing to safer communities across the borough., To discharge the Council's responsibilities under environmental protection legislation and interpretation of compliance with legal requirements.
The post holder will have a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle to travel across the borough.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). If you are employed by WHBC on 1 April 2028, it is expected that the majority of roles will transfer to the newly-created unitary councils on existing terms and conditions under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings - Protection of Employment) principles.

You will be a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner and have a degree or equivalent qualification.
The role is hybrid with office attendance 2/3 days a week, subject to service needs. You will be required to attend the office more often during your training. This role involves working outside of normal office hours when required, including occasional evenings.
Starting salary £47,907pa with progression to £51,246pa through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance)
