Job summary

Carrington Blake Recruitment are recruiting an experienced Environmental Health Officer / Environmental Protection Officer to join a local authority on a temporary basis. The role focuses on investigating noise and nuisance, protecting public health and enforcing statutory notices where needed.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Environmental Health or Pollution Control, with knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and related legislation.

Qualifications

• Experience in Environmental Health or Environmental Protection.
• Experience investigating noise complaints and statutory nuisance.

• Experience gathering evidence and enforcing notices.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload independently.

Responsibilities

• Investigate environmental health complaints and service requests.
• Carry out site visits, inspections and investigations to establish whether statutory nuisance exists.
• Investigate noise complaints, including domestic, commercial and construction-related noise.
• Gather evidence, take statements and maintain accurate investigation records.
• Prepare, serve and enforce statutory notices where appropriate.
• Monitoring compliance with informal and formal enforcement action and taking further action where necessary.
• Providing advice and guidance to residents, businesses and other organisations on environmental health matters.
• Working alongside other Council departments, partner agencies and external organisations to resolve complaints.
• Preparing reports, correspondence and evidence to support legal proceedings and court cases.
• Responding to urgent complaints and supporting out-of-hours enforcement activities.

Environmental Health Officer – Noise & Nuisance

We are currently recruiting an experienced Environmental Health Officer / Environmental Protection Officer to join a local authority team on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in Environmental Health, Pollution Control or Environmental Enforcement who can confidently investigate complaints, protect public health and take appropriate enforcement action.

The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating a wide range of environmental complaints, particularly noise and statutory nuisance issues. This will include complaints relating to construction site noise, amplified music, barking dogs, bonfires, pest infestations, fly-tipping and other environmental concerns affecting local residents and businesses.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Investigating and responding to environmental health complaints and service requests.
• Carrying out site visits, inspections and investigations to establish whether statutory nuisance exists.
• Investigating noise complaints, including domestic, commercial and construction-related noise.

• Previous experience working within Environmental Health, Environmental Protection, Pollution Control or Environmental Enforcement.
• Experience investigating noise complaints and statutory nuisance matters.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Control of Pollution Act 1974.
• Experience gathering evidence, conducting inspections and taking enforcement action.
• Strong communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to deal confidently with members of the public and businesses.
• The ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritise investigations and work independently.
• A professional approach to resolving complaints and protecting public health.

This role requires flexibility, as working hours may include shifts between 8am and 8pm, occasional overtime and participation in an out-of-hours rota.
