Job description

Public Protection Service - Make a Difference in Food Safety with Wiltshire Council

If you are a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) and have completed your Portfolio of Professional Practice, or are close to finishing, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for someone with a strong foundation in food safety enforcement, health and safety, and infectious disease control. In this role, you will carry out inspections of food premises, lead investigations, and provide expert advice to a wide range of stakeholders. Wiltshire is a large, predominantly rural county. To carry out inspections and respond to service needs across the county, you must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

We want you to join our Food and Safety Team within the Public Protection Service, where your work will make a real difference to residents and businesses. We are proud of our integrated approach and work closely with Trading Standards, Animal Health, Licensing, and Environmental Protection, which creates a forward-thinking, collaborative environment that sets us apart from many other local authorities.

Working with us means being part of a forward-thinking council that prioritises professional excellence, sustainability, and continuous learning. You will be supported by a multidisciplinary team and encouraged to grow your skills while contributing to a safer, healthier Wiltshire.

The role will provide opportunities to mentor junior officers, contribute to service development, and represent the council in formal settings.

We are seeking someone who can work independently, manage their own workload, and communicate effectively. Experience with high-risk food processes or mentoring would be a distinct advantage.

If this is the kind of role you have been looking for, get in touch for an informal chat. We would be happy to talk through the role, the team, and what it’s like to work with us.
