Job summary

Buckingham Futures is seeking an Environmental Health Manager to lead and support the Private Sector Housing and Disabled Facilities Grants teams. You will ensure effective use of statutory powers, resources and partnerships to improve housing standards.

Your responsibilities include enforcing private sector housing, overseeing inspections and HHSRS assessments, licensing, grants, and continuous service development, while guiding the EH team and working with partners and residents.

Qualifications

  • Strong Private Sector Housing background with enforcement experience.
  • Experience leading Environmental Health teams.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation and Disabled Facilities Grants.
  • Ability to manage complex cases and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of Private Sector Housing enforcement functions.
  • Oversee housing inspections and HHSRS assessments.
  • Support HMO and caravan site inspection and licensing.
  • Ensure compliance with Renters’ Rights Act 2025.
  • Lead the Empty Homes function and support returns to use.
  • Oversee Disabled Facilities Grants and other housing assistance.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and technical support to Environmental Health Officers.
  • Collaborate with internal services, external agencies and partners.
  • Engage with residents to deliver customer-focused services.
  • Approve grant applications and documentation.
  • Support continual improvement and development of the service.

Job description

As Environmental Health Manager, you will lead and support the Private Sector Housing and Disabled Facilities Grants teams, ensuring the Council makes effective use of its statutory powers, resources and partnerships.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the delivery of Private Sector Housing enforcement functions
  • Overseeing housing inspections and HHSRS assessments
  • Supporting HMO and caravan site inspection and licensing
  • Ensuring compliance with the Renters’ Rights Act 2025
  • Leading the Empty Homes function and supporting the return of properties to use
  • Overseeing Disabled Facilities Grants and other discretionary housing assistance
  • Providing leadership, guidance and technical support to Environmental Health Officers and other team members
  • Working collaboratively with internal services, external agencies and partner organisations
  • Engaging with residents and communities to deliver effective, customer-focused services
  • Approving grant applications and associated documentation
  • Supporting the continuous improvement and development of the service
About You
  • We are keen to speak with experienced Environmental Health professionals with a strong Private Sector Housing background who are ready to take the next step in their career. You will ideally bring:
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical experience across Private Sector Housing Extensive experience of housing enforcement and HHSRS
  • Knowledge of HMO licensing and relevant housing legislation
  • Experience managing, leading or mentoring Environmental Health professionals
  • An understanding of Disabled Facilities Grants and housing assistance
  • Experience working collaboratively across services and partner organisations
  • Strong communication, leadership and decision-making skills
  • The ability to make sound professional judgements and manage complex cases
  • A proactive approach to tackling poor housing conditions and improving outcomes for residents
