Job summary

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is seeking an experienced Environmental Health professional to lead the Environmental Protection service, combining technical expertise with visible leadership to protect residents and support communities.

You will oversee nuisance, air quality, environmental permitting and contaminated land, drive robust enforcement, develop policies, and lead a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health with professional registration (CIEH/EHRB).
• Senior-level experience in Environmental Health and practical knowledge of Environmental Protection functions.
• Experience supervising staff, ideally in local government or regulatory environment.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and report-writing skills.
• Valid driving licence and access to suitable transport; flexibility to work evenings/weekends and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Council’s Environmental Protection service, ensuring enforcement and high service standards.
• Provide expert advice on nuisance, air quality, environmental permitting, contaminated land and related matters.
• Manage, motivate and develop team members, prioritising workloads and maintaining a positive culture.
• Develop, review and implement strategies, policies, procedures and guidance.
• Represent the Council at meetings, committees and multi-agency forums with clear reports and advice.
• Support budget management, procurement, performance monitoring and continuous service improvement.
