Job description

Good environmental and geoscience work starts in the field. The quality of what gets recorded on site, how samples are handled, how monitoring is carried out and how findings are documented lays the foundation for everything that follows. At Stantec, we know that, and we look for people who take that foundation seriously.

We are looking for an Environmental Geoscientist to join our Energy and Resources Group, working across contaminated land, hydrogeology and ground investigation projects from our Warrington, Manchester or Shrewsbury offices. If you are practical, organised and ready to build your career in environmental geoscience within a strong, supportive team, we would love to hear from you.

About The Role

You will play a hands-on role in planning, coordinating and delivering environmental and geoscience siteworks across a varied portfolio of projects. Day to day, this will include supporting ground investigation supervision, undertaking groundwater, surface water and gas monitoring, coordinating samples, maintaining field records and upholding health, safety, security and environmental requirements on site.

Away from the field, you will contribute to the preparation of work plans, fieldwork specifications, HSSE documentation, desk studies and investigation reports. You will work closely with project managers, technical specialists, field teams, laboratories, subcontractors and wider multidisciplinary project teams, developing a broad understanding of how complex environmental projects come together from the ground up. A full clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites, including extended periods on site where required, are essential for this role.

Your Impact

The data you collect, the samples you coordinate and the records you maintain will feed directly into technical assessments and reports that shape how contaminated and complex sites are understood and managed. That is work with real consequences for the environments and communities around those sites, and your contribution at the field stage makes all the difference to the quality of what follows.

This is also a role with strong career growth potential. The breadth of project experience you will gain across contaminated land, hydrogeology and ground investigation will give you a platform to develop in whichever technical direction suits you best.

About You

You hold a BSc Hons or equivalent in Geoscience, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Geoscience, Earth Sciences or a related discipline. You bring a practical understanding of ground investigation, environmental monitoring and site-based data collection, and you are comfortable supporting the supervision of ground investigation works and coordinating site activities safely and efficiently.

You have experience in or a strong interest in groundwater, surface water and ground gas monitoring. You are thorough in managing sample handling, labelling, chain of custody documentation and laboratory coordination, and you prepare clear, accurate field records and factual reporting inputs as a matter of course.

You are well-organised, collaborative and HSSE-aware, with the kind of practical, grounded approach that makes fieldwork run smoothly and projects stay on track.
