You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

We are looking for environmental professionals across all levels of experience to support our Environmental Management and Assessment Team Scotland, based from either our Glasgow or Edinburgh Office (Hybrid). We have an exciting portfolio of projects spanning onshore and offshore renewables, aviation, nuclear, rail, and more. We need people with a creative spirit, a dedicated approach and a solid grounding in environmental design, assessment and management at any stage of the development project lifecycle.

As one of the largest environmental consultancies in the UK, WSP engages in challenging and high-profile projects. We work on everything from small developments across sectors to major national infrastructure schemes. Our Environmental Management and Assessment Team oversees and manages the environmental inputs to these schemes, with involvement through their lifecycle.

Our early engagement at concept and option stages helps shape projects that reflect the challenges of sensitive environments and communities. In supporting continued design through to consent applications, we work with our wider environmental specialists and other professionals to develop proposals that fit with and enhance the environment and communities they sit within. We aim to build wider benefits of improved habitats, cleaner air and water, lower carbon and overall environmental gain. As schemes progress, we work with design and construction teams to ensure practice meets commitments. The role is ideally suited to a pro-active individual looking to progress their career.

The role would suit an enthusiastic individual looking to influence, manage and deliver environmental elements of engineering projects across sectors including rail, highways, energy and commercial/residential, from feasibility through to planning, detailed design, construction and handover/maintenance.

Role responsibilities

  • Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
  • Collaborating with colleagues, environmental specialists, clients and engineering teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement
  • Managing the delivery of a diverse range of environmental inputs into projects including EIA screening requests and scoping reports, environmental constraints studies, environmental management plans and Environmental Statements
  • Managing projects, overseeing performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety aspects
  • Building relationships with clients and identifying opportunities to assist with resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery
  • Undertaking activities to secure new work, including preparing proposals, contributing to strategic-bid preparation, and participating in business development
  • Supporting the development of innovative techniques to shape the way we work, including Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, and Future Ready EIA
  • Inspiring and upskilling junior colleagues to support their career development
  • Promoting an inclusive workplace and understanding of Health and Safety while living the company values of health, safety and wellbeing
  • Contributing toward the success of the WSP business strategy and proactively pursuing goals relevant to the role and projects
What we will be looking for
  • A relevant environmental degree-level qualification
  • Achieved or working towards Chartered Environmental Status and Full membership of IEMA, or similar qualification with a relevant professional body
  • Experience of EIA and EIA processes and ability to work with limited supervision within multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant environmental and planning legislation
  • Demonstrable post-qualified experience coordinating environmental assessments on various projects
  • An appreciation of project management activities, including commercial and risk aspects, forecasting, and quality assurance
  • Experience liaising with cross-discipline teams, clients, external bodies and organisations
  • Verbal and written communication skills including report writing with attention to detail
