• Own critical environmental approvals and standards; prepare EIAs and maintain EIADR consent.

Job description

Are you passionate about protecting the environment and ready to make a real difference? We’re looking for an Environmental Coordinator to join our team at Wylfa, where you’ll play an important role in supporting environmental excellence across the site.

The Environmental challenges associated with the decommissioning of Wylfa are complex and wide ranging. Working within the Radiological Protection and Environment Team, the Environmental Co-ordinator is required to apply site and technical knowledge and experience to enable safe and compliant decommissioning with minimum impact on the natural environment.

What will you be doing:

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping environmental performance, providing expert guidance and driving meaningful improvements across the Site. You will lead environmental compliance and excellence, developing and maintaining robust arrangements that meet statutory and Company requirements, while actively identifying and driving improvements in environmental protection and performance.

You will be a trusted environmental expert, providing authoritative advice and practical guidance on environmental and waste management, supporting teams and projects to confidently implement effective environmental arrangements.

You will also:

• Own critical environmental approvals and standards, produce and maintain the consent under EIADR and prepare environmental impact assessments,
• Secure required regulatory approvals and support the continued maintenance of ISO 14001 certification.
• Turn ambition into measurable improvement, developing and delivering the Site Improvement Plan for environmental management and provide advice and guidance on the site arrangements for environmental management.
• Monitor performance and build capability through the professional development of EHSS&Q and site colleagues to ensure a strong, suitably qualified and experienced function.
• Support the Site and Project implementation of environmental & waste arrangements and drive improvements in environmental protection.

Who are we looking for:

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a relevant qualification at NQF Level 6 / NVQ Level 6 or equivalent, together with relevant experience gained in an environmental or closely related role. You’ll have a detailed knowledge and practical understanding of relevant non-radioactive environmental legislation, enabling you to provide confident, credible advice and support and effective environmental management across the site.

Experience within the nuclear industry would be an advantage, as would detailed knowledge of International / ISO Standards, but these are not essential. More importantly, we’re looking for someone who can apply their environmental expertise in a practical way, work effectively with a range of stakeholders and contribute positively to maintaining and improving environmental performance.
