Job summary

Murphy is seeking an Environmental Advisor to join the Energy Team on the National Grid, HWUP Project in North London. You will lead environmental best practices, support project teams, and ensure compliance with environmental policy and regulatory requirements.

The role involves inspections, incident investigations, data analysis, stakeholder liaison, and developing campaigns to improve sustainability performance across sites.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an Environmental Advisory role.
  • Qualified with an Environmental Degree.
  • Knowledge of environmental law as applied to construction projects.
  • ISEP membership desirable (progress toward PI-SEP).

Responsibilities

  • Establish and promote best practice in environmental and sustainability matters in conjunction with the SHES function.
  • Carry out regular inspections of sites to ensure work complies with Company Policy and statutory provisions.
  • Carry out incident investigations, analyse data, and recommend measures to avoid recurrences.
  • Collate environmental statistics for SHES reporting in a timely manner.
  • Review Environmental information to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement Environment & Sustainability campaigns and improvement plans with SHES Management.
  • Advise and support project teams with managing their environmental responsibilities.
  • Provide guidance to project personnel to enable effective environmental management.
  • Identify significant environmental issues for projects and ensure proper controls.
  • Identify required environmental consents/permits and ensure they are obtained.
  • Maintain records to ensure compliance with legislation and contract requirements.
  • Collaborate with third-party environment and ecology consultants.
  • Share best practices within the growing E&S function.

Murphy is recruiting for a Environmental Advisor to work with the Energy Team on the National Grid, HWUP Project in North London.

A day in the life of a Murphy Environmental Advisor
  • Establish and promote best practice in environmental and sustainability matters in conjunction with the SHES function.
  • Carry out regular inspections of sites and workplaces to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with Company Policy, Procedures, and the relevant Statutory Provisions
  • Carry out incident investigations in accordance with the Company procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences.
  • Collate Business / Contract environmental and sustainability statistics in a timely manner and submit to SHES Management & SHES function for reporting purposes.
  • Review Environmental information to identify trends and areas for improvement
  • Develop and implement Environment & Sustainability campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the SHES Management
  • Advise and support project teams with managing their environmental and sustainability responsibilities.
  • Provide advice, support, and assistance to all project personnel to enable them to manage their environmental responsibilities.
  • Identify significant Environmental issues for the project and help set-up projects to include appropriate controls.
  • Identify Environmental & Ecology consents / permits or exemptions that are required and ensure they are obtained.
  • Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements
  • Working in a small team of environmental specialists and liaising with third-party environment and ecology consultants
  • Working and sharing best practices with an ever-growing E&S function

  • Understanding of practical environmental risk mitigation on significant construction projects such as:
    • Consents, licencing and DCO/TCPA planning discharge experience
    • Water management and pollution prevention
    • Biodiversity Net Gain
    • Statutory nuisance
    • Contaminated land
  • Associate ISEP membership working towards PISEP is desirable (we can support this transition)
