We are currently recruiting an experienced EHS Lead to join a General Contractor on a major, large-scale construction project in Blyth, Northumberland.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced EHS professional to take a key role in supporting the safe and compliant delivery of a high-profile project.
The Role
As EHS Lead, you will be responsible for providing strong leadership and direction across all Environmental, Health & Safety activities on the project. You will work closely with the Project Management team, contractors and subcontractors to ensure a strong safety culture and consistently high standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage EHS activities across the project.
- Provide visible EHS leadership and promote a strong safety culture across the workforce.
- Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety and Environmental legislation, client requirements and company standards.
- Develop, implement and maintain project-specific EHS plans, procedures and initiatives.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with EHS requirements.
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations.
- Review RAMS, risk assessments, method statements and permits.
- Identify hazards and ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
- Lead and support incident, accident and near-miss investigations.
- Monitor EHS performance, KPIs and trends and provide regular reporting to project and senior management.
- Deliver and coordinate EHS inductions, briefings, toolbox talks and training.
- Work closely with project teams to ensure EHS considerations are incorporated into planning and construction activities.
- Support emergency preparedness and response arrangements.
- Liaise with the client, contractors, consultants and relevant regulatory bodies as required.
- Drive continuous improvement across all aspects of project EHS performance.
Requirements
- Proven experience in an EHS/HSE leadership role within large-scale construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and construction regulations.
- Experience working for a General Contractor / Main Contractor.
- Experience managing and influencing contractors and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of risk management, RAMS, audits and incident investigation.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Relevant EHS qualification such as NEBOSH or equivalent.
- IOSH membership and/or relevant professional accreditation would be advantageous.
- Experience on complex, high-value projects is highly desirable.
