Job summary

Herbert Parkinson, part of the John Lewis Partnership, is seeking an HSE Assistant to provide administrative support across Environmental, Health and Safety standards and site compliance at the Darwen site.

The role is on-site, 38.75 hours per week, with meetings starting as early as 07:00. You will maintain EHS documentation, champion a proactive safety culture, and help drive HS&E initiatives.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience of working in an EHS role.
• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent certification (or working towards).
• Excellent verbal & written communication.
• Exceptional organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a working knowledge of all HS&E legislative requirements and industry developments.
• Conduct regular branch checks to ensure HS&E policies and procedures are followed.
• Ensure all documentation aligns with standard templates and ISO standards.
• Review risk assessments and actively reduce risk.
• Support HS&E initiatives through onsite representatives.
• Ensure reporting mechanisms for Near Misses, Accidents, and RIDDORs.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a working knowledge of all HS&E legislative requirements and industry developments.

• Review all risk assessments and take appropriate action to actively reduce risk.
• Support and drive HS&E initiatives through onsite H&S representatives.
• Ensure sufficient and accurate reporting mechanisms are in place for activities including Near Misses, Accidents, and RIDDORs.

Essential Skills/experience You’ll Need

• Demonstrable experience of working in a EHS role
• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent certification (or working towards)
• Excellent verbal & written communication
• Exceptional organisational skills

Desirable Skills/experience You May Have

• Experience working in a HS&E role in a manufacturing environment
• Sound knowledge of ISO standards 9001, 14001 & 45001
