Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority seeks an Environment & Sustainability Advisor to support environmental performance within the Safety, Health and Environment Department, providing specialist expertise, helping maintain the environmental management system, and contributing to the sustainability strategy in a unique research and technology environment.

This onsite role requires regular presence at Abingdon, with opportunities to influence environmental outcomes across manufacturing and engineering

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in an environmental discipline.
  • ISEP Certificate in Environmental Management (or equivalent).
  • ISEP Affiliate membership with progression towards full membership.
  • Experience in an environmental role within manufacturing, engineering, research, or similar technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems and certification processes.
  • Experience preparing environmental compliance reports.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert environmental advice and practical guidance to colleagues across UKAEA.
  • Support the management and continual improvement of the environmental management system in line with ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Advise operational teams on activities with significant environmental impacts and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
  • Monitor environmental legislation and support compliance with new and changing regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit environmental and sustainability reports to regulators and external stakeholders, including statutory returns.
  • Deliver environmental awareness initiatives and provide environmental training across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the delivery of sustainability objectives and deputise for the Environment & Sustainability Manager when required.

Join UKAEA as an Environment & Sustainability Advisor and play a key role in supporting the organisation’s environmental performance and long-term sustainability objectives. Working within the Safety, Health and Environment Department, you will provide specialist environmental expertise, help maintain and improve the environmental management system, and contribute to the delivery of UKAEA’s sustainability strategy. This is an opportunity to influence meaningful environmental outcomes within a unique research and technology environment.

What You'll be Doing

What You'll Bring
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in an environmental or related discipline.
  • ISEP Certificate in Environmental Management (or equivalent).
  • ISEP Affiliate membership with progression towards full membership.
  • Proven experience in an environmental role, ideally within a manufacturing, engineering, research, or similar technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems, including experience supporting certification and compliance activities.
  • Experience preparing environmental compliance reports and supporting regulatory requirements.

UKAEA is an onsite organisation, and this role requires regular onsite presence (usually between 3-5 days in any given week) in line with business needs. We actively support flexible working arrangements where this is compatible with the role
