Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is seeking an Environmental Advisor for the Great Grid Upgrade, balancing site office work and field duties across North Humber to High Marnham. You will ensure environmental compliance, conduct audits, and guide project teams on sustainable practices within a major power infrastructure project.

The role requires hands-on field experience, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to travel within the project area.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as Environmental Advisor in construction or energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation for large-scale infrastructure.
  • Experience with field monitoring: water sampling, noise and vibration monitoring.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 EMS and CEMP requirements.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork.
  • Relevant environmental science/sustainability qualifications.
  • Willingness to travel within the project site.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage environmental compliance on-site.
  • Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections.
  • Engage with PMs, contractors and regulators to mitigate risks.
  • Provide expert advice and training on environmental best practices.
  • Support implementation of EMS and sustainability initiatives.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports and documentation.

Environmental Advisor- Great Grid Upgrade

Location: North Humber to High Marnham - Site / Project based role, occasional travel will be required to our GGP project hub in Birmingham.

Are you passionate about driving sustainable practices in large-scale construction projects?

Laing O'Rourke are seeking a proactive Environmental Advisor to support our team on a flagship project site. This role will form part of a growing environment team as part of an evolving project portfolio, which is set to run over the next decade.

We are helping to deliver a major power upgrade for the National Grid - one of the largest upgrades to the UK power network in decades - a transformative, high-value project that will shape the nation's energy future.

This role requires a hands-on professional who can seamlessly split their time between the site office and out in the field, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, managing risks, and championing sustainable practices throughout the construction process. You will split your time between site office and out in the field with primary focus supporting project CGNC based North Humber to High Marnham.

  • CGNC - Principal contractor for 46km OHL enabling works

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and manage environmental compliance on-site in line with legal requirements and company policies
  • Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections in both office and field settings
  • Engage with project managers, contractors, and regulatory bodies to mitigate environmental risks
  • Provide expert advice and training to site personnel on environmental best practices
  • Support the implementation of environmental management plans and sustainability initiatives
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports and documentation as required
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience as an Environmental Advisor or similar role within the construction or energy sector
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and standards relevant to large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Experience doing in-field environmental monitoring tasks such as collecting water samples, ground investigative works, setting up noise and vibration monitoring equipment and ability to present findings
  • Good understanding of ISO 14001 EMS and implementation of project CEMP requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Relevant qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or related fields
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the project site
