Job description
Overview

As an Entry Level Systems Engineer, you'll be joining our team at a pivotal moment in the Skynet programme supporting the replenishment of infrastructure that underpins secure satellite communications for defence. You'll be part of a team that ensures the operational integrity of critical systems, contributing to national security and global defence missions. This is a fantastic opportunity to start your engineering career in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. You'll gain hands-on experience, receive structured training over 18 months, and work alongside experienced professionals who will support your development every step of the way.

Responsibilities
  • Day-to-day you'll be completing routine and scheduled maintenance of satellite systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Reacting to system alarms and anomalies, diagnosing faults, and resolving issues to maintain operational capability.
  • Assisting with fault reports and accurately recording maintenance activities.
  • Following health and safety and radiation policies to ensure safe working practices.
  • Supporting both first-line and second-line maintenance tasks within the Skynet network.
  • The role is based onsite at SGS Colerne, and the set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 37 hours per week.
Essential experience
  • A good foundation in technical knowledge within the systems engineering field.
  • Experience maintaining and diagnosing faults in communication equipment.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and working safely.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
Qualifications
  • GCSE or equivalent at Grade C or above in Maths, English, and a science-based subject.
Security

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
