Job summary

British Steel in Scunthorpe is seeking an Internal Audit Manager to lead the development and day-to-day operation of its enterprise internal audit function, delivering independent assurance on governance, risk management and controls.

You will translate the Internal Audit Policy into a practical audit programme for a complex manufacturing organisation, maintaining ISO 19011 capability while expanding assurance to enterprise risk, governance and resilience.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in internal audit, governance and risk management.
• Ability to plan and lead risk-based audits.
• Strong understanding of governance and internal controls.
• Analytical skills to identify material issues vs routine weaknesses.
• Excellent stakeholder management, including senior executives.
• Strong report writing and presentation capabilities.
• Ability to maintain independence while collaborating with management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the risk-based enterprise audit programme.
• Prioritise audits by materiality and residual risk.
• Coordinate progression from initial objectives to enterprise assurance model.
• Lead complex or strategically significant audit engagements.
• Identify root causes and opportunities to improve resilience.
• Coordinate with risk management, assurance teams and other providers.
• Lead and develop Enterprise Audit Business Partners and staff.
