Job summary

A leading defence contractor is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect for a 12-month contract with a predominantly remote working arrangement. The successful candidate will lead architectural initiatives, ensuring alignment with business strategies and compliance within a dynamic security environment. A TOGAF certification and current SC security clearance are essential for this role, which offers a day rate between £600 and £706 (ex VAT).

Our esteemed defence client is seeking experienced Enterprise Architect’s to join their team on 12-month contracts. This pivotal role offers a predominantly remote working arrangement, with occasional travel to sites based in Salisbury and Portsmouth. The successful candidate will hold current and active SC security clearance, ensuring immediate contribution to critical projects.

Role Overview

As an Enterprise Architect, you will operate as a strategic leader, translating complex business strategies into effective technical solutions. Your expertise will drive enterprise-wide initiatives, aligning technology, data, and organisational goals. The role involves shaping architectural visions, managing standards, and ensuring the organisation’s resilience and compliance within a dynamic security environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and lead the enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and roadmaps, including current ('as is'), future ('to be'), and transitional states.
  • Identify priorities for change to support rapid delivery and enable strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across business and technical domains, ensuring architectural consistency and alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Establish and govern architectural principles, policies, and standards.
  • Lead horizon scanning to identify emerging industry trends and assess their impact and opportunities.
  • Manage the Architecture Management Office, triaging work and providing architectural support across teams.
  • Promote community development within architecture teams, encouraging best practices and knowledge sharing.
  • Guide decision-making in complex, high-risk scenarios, ensuring sustainable and scalable solutions.
  • Maintain engagement with external partners to inform policies and strategic frameworks.
Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in enterprise architecture, with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects at organisational and government levels.

  • TOGAF certification or an equivalent framework with demonstrable application experience.
  • Confirmation of current SC security clearance.
  • Experience with ISEB, ITIL, IT4IT, or COBIT certifications is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate policy, technological, and societal changes.
  • Proficiency in architectural governance, risk management, and problem shaping.
  • Experience in managing architecture communities and facilitating cross-departmental collaboration.
