Job summary

Queen Alexandra College in Harborne, Birmingham, is seeking an English Tutor to deliver Functional Skills, GCSE and related awards. You will plan, teach and assess learners, tailoring methods to individual needs and meeting examination board requirements.

This full‑time post (36 hours per week, 39 weeks per year) sits in the Teaching Department under the Department Manager - Functional Skills. You will contribute to curriculum development and uphold safeguarding and inclusion across learning

Qualifications

• Degree qualification (2.2 minimum) and teaching qualification Level 4.
• Literacy and numeracy qualifications Level 2 minimum.
• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good IT skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
• Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Teach groups across Functional Skills/GCSE/Award with planning, delivery and assessment.
• Promote college aims and develop learner-focused curriculum within standards and funding requirements.
• Deliver, plan and assess the curriculum in a flexible, innovative manner. Plan and record learner achievements.
• Contribute to safeguarding and pastoral welfare of learners and coordinate with relevant staff.
• Engage in staff training and development and adapt to technological support for learners with needs.
• Perform duties as required and support wider college activities.
