Job summary

Cover People are supporting a welcoming secondary school in Bury to appoint a Temporary English Teacher from September 2026.

You will teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and GCSE, helping students develop a love of reading, writing and communication. Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply, with induction and mentoring programs available.

Teachers will be paid on the M1–M6 Pay Scale from day one, with the start date in September 2026. Right to work in the UK is required.

Qualifications

  • QTS (or equivalent UK teaching qualification) is required.
  • Experience teaching English at KS3 and GCSE.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills; a passion for education.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality English lessons in line with the national curriculum across KS3 and GCSE.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons to develop reading, writing and language skills.
  • Monitor, assess and track student progress effectively.
  • Create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment.
  • Differentiate learning to meet all students' needs.
  • Support students’ academic, personal and social development; contribute to the department.

About the Role

Cover People are currently supporting a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Bury with the appointment of a Temporary English Teacher to join their team from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a well-established English department with a strong focus on academic achievement, high-quality teaching and excellent student outcomes. The successful candidate will teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and GCSE, inspiring students to develop a love of reading, writing and communication.

Early Career Teachers will benefit from a comprehensive induction programme and dedicated mentoring, while experienced teachers will have the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development and departmental initiatives.

Teachers will be paid in line with the M1–M6 Teacher Pay Scale from day one.
