English Teacher (with PSHE) - SEMH Specialist Provision

Full-time Secondary KS3-KS4 Immediate or January Start

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an English Teacher to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) setting supporting young people aged 11-18. This is a unique environment with small class sizes, a highly supportive team, and a strong focus on character development and wellbeing.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate English Teacher who can deliver engaging KS3 and KS4 English lessons, supporting pathways from Entry Level to Level 1 and GCSE/Level 2 equivalents. In addition to English, the successful candidate will also contribute to the school's PSHE/Character curriculum, delivering lessons that focus on personal development, careers, wellbeing and the school's values.

This role would suit:

  • Secondary English‑trained teacher
  • SEN teacher with English specialism
  • Primary‑trained teacher confident teaching older pupils with additional needs
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver English lessons across KS3 and KS4, tailored to a range of abilities
  • Support students in achieving qualifications from Entry Level to GCSE or equivalent
  • Deliver PSHE/Character lessons that form part of the school's “CREATE” personal development curriculum
  • Build strong relationships with students and motivate them to reach their potential
  • Use de‑escalation strategies calmly and effectively during moments of dysregulation
  • Apply knowledge of frameworks such as emotion coaching, nurture principles and zones of regulation
  • Work collaboratively with the wider staff team, families, and professionals
  • Contribute to a nurturing, inclusive, and aspirational learning environment
What We’re Looking For
  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong behaviour management and de‑escalation skills
  • A calm, patient, and emotionally resilient approach
