We’re supporting a specialist school in the Gateshead area that’s looking for bright, compassionate graduates to join their team as SEN Teaching Assistants. You’ll be working with pupils who need a bit of extra support with communication, confidence, and learning routines, and your background in English can make a real difference.

What the role looks like:
  • Supporting pupils with a range of SEND needs, including autism and communication difficulties
  • Helping learners understand language, build vocabulary, and express themselves
  • Working 1, 2 or in small groups to keep learning meaningful and accessible
  • Bringing structure, encouragement, and calm on the tougher days
  • Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and the wider SEN team
You’d be a great fit if you:
  • Have an English degree or similar humanities background
  • Enjoy finding creative ways to explain ideas or spark curiosity
  • Are patient, supportive, and quick to build rapport
  • Want hands‑on experience before a PGCE or teacher training route
  • Are open to learning about SEND, behaviour, and trauma‑informed practice
What you’ll get from Protocol Education:
  • Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella deductions
  • Free CPD, including SEND, behaviour support, and communication training
  • A dedicated consultant who supports you from day one
  • Long‑term opportunities in welcoming, well‑supported SEND environments
  • A chance to build real classroom experience and grow your confidence

If you’re ready to bring your love of English into a role that changes lives, we’d love to hear from you. Send your CV or message for a chat about the school and next steps.
