Job summary

Network Rail invites applications for a 12-month Year in Industry placement across Civils, Geotechnical, Electrical or Mechanical disciplines based in Cardiff. You will join a cohort of graduates and placement students to support asset management and learn through a structured development programme starting September 2027.

High-potential students may be fast-tracked to the Network Rail Graduate Scheme upon successful degree completion.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an engineering bachelor's degree accredited with ICE/IMechE/IET.
• Excellent communication skills, both in person and virtually.
• Interest in asset management.
• Shows initiative and eagerness to learn.
• Familiarity with safety management systems and risk assessment.
• Understanding of engineering policies and standards.
• Desire to develop through a structured placement program.

Responsibilities

• Support asset management processes to meet financial and output targets.
• Assist climate adaptation plans for safer, more reliable rail operations.
• Schedule examinations, inspections, and assessments of assets.
• Prioritise actions to address defects from reports.
• Undertake engineering analysis and life-cost evaluation.
• Support development of enhancement schemes and interface with capability programs.
• Maintain asset data in company systems.
• Provide engineering support in incident investigations.
• Participate in a structured development programme with graduates and placements.
