The ideal candidate will be a curious problem-solver and a collaborative communicator, with hands-on skills in assembly and testing. Key responsibilities include executing test protocols, building prototypes, and troubleshooting equipment. A degree or BTEC in engineering is preferred but not mandatory. Salary is £25k-30k, located near Hook, Hampshire.

Engineering Test Technician

£25k-30k – Hook, Hampshire

Overview

Engineering Test Technician urgently required to work for a specialist engineering and manufacturing business based near Hook, Hampshire. You will play a crucial role in developing market‑leading mechanical equipment, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and performance through rigorous, methodical testing. Working alongside our experienced engineers and scientists, your work will directly contribute to creating world‑class equipment.

We're looking for someone who is a curious and methodical problem‑solver who is highly organised and adaptable, a collaborative communicator with a solid practical and hands‑on approach, and enjoys building, testing, and getting stuck in with both the analytical and physical aspects of the work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute systematic test protocols for our automated equipment.
  • Build, assemble, and validate test jigs, components, and electro‑mechanical prototypes.
  • Collect, analyse, and present test data clearly to the engineering team, providing crucial insights for development.
  • Troubleshoot and investigate issues with equipment, collaborating with the design team to form practical solutions.
  • Uphold and contribute to a safe, efficient, and organised laboratory environment.
  • Occasionally assist other teams, e.g., preparing equipment for customer demonstrations.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
  • A keen ability to learn and apply knowledge from a wide range of engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrable experience in executing a test plan and recording results in a clear, structured manner.
  • Proven hands‑on skills, such as assembling apparatus, setting up test equipment, soldering, etc.
  • The ability to work effectively both under guidance and on your own initiative.
Ideal (but not required)
  • A degree or BTEC in engineering.
  • Experience in a system testing or laboratory environment.
  • Some working knowledge of electronics or embedded software (e.g., programming Arduino/Raspberry Pi boards).
