Job description

Job description: We have an exciting opportunity in the School of Chemical and Biological Engineering for an Engineering Technician to join our technical support team. We’re looking for a proactive individual to support our teaching and research activities through the design and manufacture of custom experimental rigs and components, ensuring an efficient and effective technical service.

Role Overview

This is a hands‑on role with a focus on manufacturing precision components. You’ll work with both CNC and manual machines, use CAD software to design bespoke equipment, and support exciting student and research projects. From the workshop to the lab, you’ll collaborate with students and academics, deliver high‑quality technical solutions, and uphold our outstanding standards in safety and service. Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will design, fabricate and test custom experimental rigs and components, maintain workshop equipment, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and communicate technical information clearly and succinctly to a wide variety of stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience

Level 3 (BTEC/A level) qualification in an engineering design & manufacturing‑related subject (or equivalent experience). Proven vocational and practical application experience, knowledge of safe working practices and application of Health and Safety in a workshop environment.
