Job summary

Protocol England, Nottinghamshire, Worksop is seeking an Engineering Technician (Fabrication and Welding) to support the college's fabrication workshops, ensuring equipment, materials, and learning environments are prepared, maintained, and safe. You will work with teaching staff, provide technical support for practical lessons and student projects, and contribute to safe workshop operations.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in fabrication and welding in a college or industrial setting.
• Hold a Level 2 or higher qualification in Fabrication & Welding and a Level 2 in English and Maths.
• Strong team player with a proactive approach to workshop activities.
• Desirable Level 3 qualification in Fabrication & Welding, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Workshop Preparation: Safe preparation and setting out of equipment and materials for practical work, demonstrations, examinations, and assessments.
• Safety & Supervision: Providing safety cover during practical classes, ensuring workshops and equipment are entirely safe for use.
• Technical Assistance: Assisting in the construction of apparatus and preparation of materials as detailed by academic staff.
• Asset Management: Distributing tools and consumables to students, and maintaining accurate stock records.
• Maintenance & Cleanliness: Carrying out routine maintenance on machinery and equipment; ensuring workshops are clean, tidy and safe.
• Stock & Ordering: Monitoring levels of tools, equipment, and consumables, ordering replacements as required.
• Security & Operations: Ensuring the security of workshops and equipment; notifying the Curriculum Team Leader of loss or damage.
• Team Collaboration: Attending team meetings and supporting other areas of the college.

Engineering Technician (Fabrication and Welding)
Location: Worksop, Nottinghamshire
Organisation: FE College
Contract: Permanent Opportunity
Hours: 37 hours per week
Rate: £25,456 per annum

As an Engineering Technician, you will support the day-to-day operation of the college's fabrication and welding workshops, ensuring equipment, materials, and learning environments are prepared, maintained, and compliant with health and safety requirements.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will provide technical support for practical lessons, demonstrations, assessments, and student projects across a range of vocational and apprenticeship programmes.

As our Fabrication & Welding Technician, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Workshop Preparation: Safe preparation and setting out of equipment and materials for practical work, demonstrations, examinations, and assessments.
• Safety & Supervision: Providing safety cover during practical classes, ensuring workshops and equipment are entirely safe for use.
• Technical Assistance: Assisting in the construction of apparatus and preparation of materials as detailed by academic staff.
• Asset Management: Distributing tools and consumables to students, and operating an efficient system to monitor the return of equipment.
• Maintenance & Cleanliness: Carrying out routine maintenance on machinery and equipment. Ensuring workshops are clean, tidy, and safe, disposing of waste materials according to college policy.
• Stock & Ordering: Monitoring levels of tools, equipment, and consumables, ordering replacements as required, and maintaining accurate stock records.
• Security & Operations: Ensuring the security of workshops and equipment by locking doors and storage areas. Notifying the Curriculum Team Leader of any loss or damage.
• Team Collaboration: Attending and contributing to team meetings, providing First Aid (after appropriate training), and supporting other areas of the college when required.

To be successful in this role, you will bring real-world knowledge into our educational environment. We are looking for candidates who possess:

• Industry Experience: Proven experience working within the fabrication and welding industry, bringing current practices and practical knowledge to our workshops.
• Qualifications: Hold a Level 2 or above professionally related qualification in Fabrication and Welding. You will hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths (or be willing to undertake).
• Team Player Mentality: An eagerness to be an active part of the Fabrication and Welding team and a drive to continuously develop our workshop environment.
• Relevant Level 3 qualification in Fabrication & Welding, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering.
