Job description
Overview

We are hiring for an experienced, hands-on Engineering Technician to join our Engineering Operations team based at CFC Dordon. This site is one of our oldest CFCs - working with cogs, conveyors, and essential mechanical handling equipment. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring our 24/7 operations remain seamless and efficient. In your role as Engineering Technician you will carry out planned maintenance across the site and diagnose equipment breakdowns and action repairs where possible. You will be working closely with other departments finding ways to increase machine reliability on existing and new equipment. You will work shift patterns to support continuous operations, benefiting from a competitive salary and benefits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and rectify equipment malfunctions: Systematically identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, or software anomalies in materials handling equipment (MHE) to mitigate operational interruptions.
  • Analyse data to ascertain and deploy enhancements for MHE performance: Collect and interpret data from diverse sources to proactively identify inefficiencies and implement improvements, ranging from minor adjustments to significant system overhauls.
  • Compile and monitor data pertaining to MHE and maintenance operations: Accurately document and analyse all maintenance activities to track KPIs such as uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and OEE for strategic decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Strong electrical or mechanical background, ideally within an FMCG environment.
  • A Level 3 engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, BTEC National Diploma, or equivalent) in an electrical or mechanical discipline.
  • Requires recent (within 6 months) hands-on mechanical and electrical engineering experience with traditional industrial machinery (cogs, conveyors, heavy plant equipment).
  • Proficient in fault analysis and problem-solving, particularly with control systems.
  • Good technical aptitude with automation hardware and software, encompassing both reactive and preventative maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of automated warehouses and their technical components.
  • We are particularly interested in candidates who have gained their experience in demanding, hands-on environments such as Network Rail, the Armed Forces, heavy manufacturing, or traditional warehouse/logistics operations.
