Job summary

A leading engineering firm in the United Kingdom is seeking an Engineering Technician to ensure optimal performance on liquid bottling lines. You will be responsible for maintaining production standards, troubleshooting equipment issues, and implementing lean manufacturing techniques. The ideal candidate will have mechanical knowledge, experience in an FMCG environment, and an understanding of GMP guidelines. Engineering Technician

Location: Preston / Chorley

Type: Permanent

Salary: Competitive

As the Engineering Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring Right First Time (RFT) settings on liquid bottling lines. You'll drive performance improvements, troubleshoot equipment issues, and implement preventative actions to maintain world‑class manufacturing standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Always ensure safe working practices and compliance with Health & Safety procedures
  • Set up and maintain production filling lines to meet planned requirements and achieve RFT standards
  • Work closely with Line Leaders and Supervisors to ensure production lines are ready and available to meet weekly plans
  • Identify and implement line improvements to increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) using root cause analysis and lean tools
  • Complete Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities on time using the CMMS system
  • Support the business in achieving and sustaining ISO22716/9001, COSMOS, Soil Association, and BRCGS accreditations
  • Utilise lean manufacturing techniques (SMED, 5S, RCPS, TPM) to improve efficiency and reduce changeover times
  • Report equipment and component failures promptly to ensure timely replacements
  • Dispose of waste safely and ensure equipment is turned off when not in use
Criteria
  • Mechanical bias or working towards a relevant qualification
  • Basic understanding of filling equipment operations (bottle filling, capping, labelling)
  • Knowledge of GMP guidelines and lean principles
  • Experience using planned maintenance systems (PPM)
  • Experience working in an FMCG environment
  • Basic IT skills (Windows, Microsoft Office)
  • Lean/Six Sigma qualification (advantageous)
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and risk assessment
