Job summary

An engineering firm in the UK is seeking a candidate to provide support to the Engineering Team in maintenance and reactive tasks. The ideal candidate will engage in asset care, perform inspections, and assist with operational issues to ensure seamless material flow. Training can be provided for working at heights. Strong numeracy, literacy, and interpersonal skills are essential for this role.

Qualifications

  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • A flexible approach to changing priorities.
  • Working at heights and rescue at height certified (training provided).

  • Good understanding of SCADA.

Job description
Role overview

To provide site wide support to the Engineering Team, responding and undertaking lower level reactive, maintenance and general engineering activities. Incumbents will work within the scope of their training to support the Operational and Engineering teams by ensuring the movement of material within the distribution centres. Perform visual inspections and the accurate reporting of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) issues.

Responsibilities

Proactively engage in asset care and maintenance within the scope of the role, demonstrating an awareness of faults / issues and using knowledge / skill / experience to pre-empt potential failures by taking the appropriate remedial or escalation action.

Perform PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) visual inspections of the MHE in accordance with the Engineering functions CMMS and report potential failures to the engineering teams.

Provide ownership and up-keep of visual standards.

Work within areas of ownership as required, providing first response of material flow, Operational and Engineering issues.

Assist Engineering with fault rectification, maintenance and housekeeping activities as directed.

Ensure areas of ownership are always kept cleaned and tidy.

Work within the department’s procedure concerning items taken from stores.

Reactive MHE Support

Under the correct level of supervision and / or in accordance with qualification, training, and experience, undertake first response, escalation, and lower-level fault rectification on the MHE.

Proactively engage stakeholders to prevent stoppages and die back across site.

Attend MHE stoppages as directed to clear, cartons, totes, items, materials, and blockages.

As required, provide support in maintaining the availability and operational running time of the sites Cranes & Shuttles. This will be achieved by following SOP’s to :

  • Carrying out resets & climbing of cranes to access cartons causing the crane to enter error and / or crane rectification of issues.
  • Accessing and interrogating system(s) to ensure stock accuracy is maintained during error mode and crane resets.
  • Undertake tasks associated with climbing and rescuing at heights.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with the needs of the business.
