Job summary

Science and Technology Facilities Council in Edinburgh is seeking a Senior Engineering Project Manager to lead the development and delivery of the HARMONI instrument, in collaboration with UK and international partners, for the UK Astronomy Technology Centre.

You will manage teams, schedule, budget, risk and subcontracting, ensuring design baseline and change control, quality and safety in line with industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a technical, engineering or science-based subject or equivalent relevant experience.
  • High technical awareness and problem-solving capability in a multi-project, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Professional experience as a project manager leading large technology-based projects with international partners.
  • Expertise in project management practices: setup, scheduling, risk analysis, financial control and sub-contract management.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and presentational skills.
  • Experience working on collaborative projects involving international partners.
  • People leadership skills and ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Well-developed influencing and negotiating skills.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the overall HARMONI project, overseeing work at UK ATC and with UK/international collaborators.
  • Work with Work Package Managers to ensure delivery to time and budget.
  • Manage design baseline and change control processes across the project.
  • Manage quality and safety aspects of the project using established standards.
