Qualifications

  • HNC/HND within a related Engineering discipline.
  • Engineering Degree within an Aerospace related discipline.
  • Typically greater than 5 years of experience working in an Engineering Discipline or Technical Project Management.
  • Previous experience managing multi-functional Teams including in a remote working setting.
  • Good understanding of the certification framework for Aircraft Interiors.
  • Awareness of configuration management principles and change management processes.
  • Experienced in preparation of business cases or bids.
  • Understanding financial management in product development.
  • Knowledge in Systems Engineering.
  • Mechanical, electrical and systems design knowledge.
  • Experience with DFMEA and PFMEA.
  • Recognised qualification in Project Management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate Engineering projects.
  • Ensure project milestones align with schedule commitments.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation actions.
  • Support development of project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Track progress of Project Tasks across multi-functional Engineering Teams.

Position: Engineering Project Lead

Location: Europe, UK, Wales. The role is based in Cwmbran, and occasional travel will be required including to international locations (suppliers, customers, other Safran sites).

In the UK, Safran Seats specialises solely in the First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide body aircraft, with industrial and engineering teams in Cwmbran and Newport, Wales and Brackley, England.

Responsibilities
  • You act within a small team of peers and do not have direct responsibility for any staff. You have the ability to manage across a functional matrix structure within the Technical Domain of the business. Your responsibility is focused on effective planning and execution of Engineering projects to meet or exceed the agreed performance metrics. You are considered the Technical focal point for the project under your responsibility, across the entire business and also Customer and Airframer facing.
  • You are responsible to manage and coordinate across a range of responsibilities and ensure project milestones align with schedule commitments.
  • You support the IPT in Identifying project risk, mitigation actions and contingency plans.
  • You support the development of project plans, schedules and budgets.
  • You track progress of Project Tasks across multi-functional Engineering Teams.
  • You resolve schedule conflicts and develop technical solutions with inputs from the Technical Functional teams, ensuring high levels of quality of technical deliverables.
  • You are able to provide a clear project status both internally and to the Customer.
  • You are responsible to track performance against budget for NRC and RC P4.
  • You may be responsible to ensure effective management of Large Work Packages across the group Business Units or with Partners.
  • You may liaise with the Customer to present technical solutions and their impact on programme schedule.
  • You collate inputs to generate and maintain customer Product Specifications and are responsible to create and maintain coherent Work Breakdown Structures.
  • You manage technical requirements relevant to your Project scope, through a Systems Engineering approach and you are responsible to track technical changes.
  • You are responsible to participate in Design Reviews throughout each phase of the New Product Introduction process.
  • You are responsible to deliver the Engineering requirements in support of the business gated processes (MER, PROMPT, PLS).

Candidate skills & requirements
  • HNC/HND within a related Engineering discipline

  • Typically having greater than 5 years of experience working in an Engineering Discipline or a Technical Project Management role
  • Previous experience managing multi-functional Teams including within a remote working setting
  • A good understanding of the certification framework within which the work is undertaken, preferably with some knowledge of Aircraft Interiors
  • An awareness of configuration management principles and change management processes
  • Experienced in preparation of business cases or bids for new programmes including Technical specification preparation
  • Understanding of financial management within a new product development environment, dealing with different categories of costs that are both internal and external to the business
