Job summary

Aureol Global Connections is seeking an experienced Lead Design Manager to head the engineering design delivery for major HV substation projects and to lead design management during tender and ECI stages. You will coordinate HV plant, protection & control, and civils with internal and external designers and OEMs, and act as Principal Design Representative under CDM 2015.

Qualifications

• Experience leading multi-disciplinary design packages for HV power projects.
• Electrical engineering education at degree level or higher.
• Experience as Principal Designer Representative under CDM 2015.
• Experience delivering substation projects for UK TSO operators desirable.
• Membership of a UK Engineering institute.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering design delivery of major HV substation projects (132/275/400kV).
• Lead design management at tender and early contractor engagement stages.
• Integrate HV plant, protection & control, and civils with internal/external designers and OEMs.
• Act as Principal Design Representative ensuring compliant, well-managed design information.
• Contribute to continual design management process improvements.
• Review design pack submissions for compliance and quality.
• Develop and support project planners for design/engineering programmes.
• Monitor procurement issues affecting design and engineering programmes.
• Coordinate with Temporary Works Coordinators to ensure constructability and permanent works.
• Influence contracts on design consultants' fees, services, schedule, liabilities and warranties.
• Review consultant payment applications with contract surveyor.

Job description

• Lead the engineering design delivery of existing major Transmission HV 132/275/400kV Substation new build and extension projects.
• Lead Design Management requirements at tender and/or Early Contractor Engagement stage and allocate resources as appropriate during tender, FEED, and detailed design stages.
• Integrate multiple engineering disciplines including HV Plant, Protection and Control and Civils from a mix of internal and external designers and OEMs.
• Undertake the role of Principal Design Representative on project(s) ensuring design information is being suitable managed to the various roles and compliant with the requirements of CDM 2015 Regulations.
• Involvement in the development of Business Unit and Group Design Management continual process improvement activities.
• Review design pack submissions as required for technical compliance, quality and completeness.
• Develop and assist the project Planners with maintaining the design and engineering aspect of programmes.
• Monitor and expedite key engineering programme issues including the procurement of services and equipment to the Business Unit Procurement function.
• Review and liaise with internal Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure appropriate consideration of constructability and required permanent works.
• Ensure an understanding of, and an influence on the contracts Design Consultants are working under including their fees, schedule of services, programme, and liabilities and warranties.
• Review and comment the payment applications from consultants and pass to the contract surveyor for processing and payment.

Requirements

• Experience managing multi-disciplinary design packages on HV Power Projects.
• Electrical engineering education (preferably to degree level) and High Voltage project design experience.
• Experience carrying out the role of Principal Designer Representative under CDM 2015.
• Experience of delivery of substation projects for UK Transmission Service Operators (SSEN, National Grid, Scottish Power Energy Networks, NIE Networks) is desirable.
• Membership of a UK Engineering institute.
