Job summary

Infinitesima in Abingdon, UK, seeks an Engineering Manager, Scientific Software to lead our Data Analysis team, a software/algorithm engineering group turning raw AFM data into 3D measurements. You’ll own software strategy, guide architecture, and drive delivery in a cross‑functional, offline fab environment.

You’ll mentor engineers, shape tooling and processes, and collaborate across R&D, Systems, Product and Applications teams. Hybrid work post‑probation is offered.

Qualifications

• Experience leading and developing technical teams, including appraisals, career development and recruitment.
• Strong Python development skills with industry experience.
• Practical experience using Agile and Lean methodologies.
• Good understanding of the SDLC and best practice.
• Experience with external partners or suppliers.
• Project management experience.
• Clear English communication and collaborative approach.
• 5+ years in software development and 5+ years in leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of scientific software engineers to deliver high‑quality, fault‑tolerant software.
• Own the team’s software strategy and evolve image‑processing algorithms and architecture.
• Coach through 1:1s, appraisals, hiring and career development.
• Plan, track and report progress with project leads and integrate with wider plans.
• Manage technical debt pragmatically for long‑term maintainability.
• Improve engineering processes using Agile and Lean practices.
