Engineering Manager
Coventry
08 : 30am – 17 : 00pm Mon – Fri
Up to £80,000 OTE
Established over 40 years ago, MNB Precision provides manufacturing and precision engineering services to the world’s leading companies across the Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Rail and other manufacturing industries.
We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager to join the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the engineering function to deliver robust, efficient, and innovative solutions for complex, high-mix / low-volume machining operations in exotic and high‑strength materials.
- Standardise engineering processes for set‑up reduction, quick changeovers, and flexible manufacturing to improve responsiveness and minimise downtime.
- Drive process improvement projects to reduce scrap, rework, and dimensional variation, ensuring consistency when machining exotic alloys to tight tolerances.
- Embed lean and continuous improvement practices into engineering workflows, focusing on eliminating waste, improving process stability, and enhancing productivity.
- Develop and deliver a forward‑looking technology and process roadmap, incorporating advanced tooling, CAD / CAM enhancements, and digital solutions to support quality and efficiency.
- Develop and embed inspection processes, including CMM programming and operator self‑inspection, working closely with the Quality Manager to ensure first‑time‑right quality, reduce non‑conformances, and build accountability at the source.
- Oversee and continuously improve bench fitting and manual processes, ensuring precision, consistency, and integration with CNC operations to deliver high‑quality components to customer specifications.
- Collaborate closely with production and quality teams to ensure engineering improvements are fully embedded and sustained across the shopfloor.
- Optimise factory layout and material flow to enhance productivity, reduce waste and handling, and ensure scalability for future equipment, technology, and workflow changes.
- Establish and monitor engineering KPIs focused on overruns, quality, and consistency (e.g. first‑off acceptance rates, process capability, cycle time variance).
- Provide hands‑on technical leadership and problem‑solving support for machining issues, tooling failures, and process deviations.
- Support the COO in capex planning and implementation of new technologies, tooling, and software, ensuring measurable returns on investment.
- Mentor and develop the engineering team to build capability in advanced machining methods, exotic materials processing, CAD / CAM, and continuous improvement.
- Own CAD / CAM programming, tool selection, and machining strategies, ensuring programmes are accurate, repeatable, and cost‑effective.
- Optimise CNC programming and tool paths to minimise cycle times, reduce tool wear, and ensure first‑time‑right quality.
- Control and reduce engineering overruns by improving estimating accuracy, monitoring actual vs. planned cycle times, and addressing root causes of variation.
- Champion Design for Manufacture (DFM) and New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring smooth and timely transitions from quotation through to stable production.
Requirements
- You will be an experienced Engineering Manager, able to confidently lead and develop the engineering team to be able to deliver robust solutions for complex machining solutions.
- You will have a strong background within continuous improvement processes to minimise downtime.
- Strong understanding of machining processes as well as CAD / CAM and tooling solutions, ideally within the oil & gas, aerospace or defence industries
