Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Engineering design delivery of large HV Substation projects and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams across tender, FEED and detailed design stages.

You will ensure compliance with CDM 2015, manage design information with internal and external designers and drive continual process improvements within the Energy Team. Based in Cannock, UK, the role offers exposure to National Grid and major transmission schemes.

Qualifications

• Experience managing multi-disciplinary design packages on HV power projects.
• Electrical engineering degree and HV project design experience preferred.
• Experience as Principal Designer Representative under CDM 2015.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering design delivery of existing major Transmission HV 132/275/400kV Substation new build and extension projects.
• Lead Design Management requirements at tender and Early Contractor Engagement stages, allocate resources for tender/FEED/detailed design.
• Integrate HV Plant, Protection and Control and Civils from internal/external designers and OEMs.
• Act as Principal Designer Representative ensuring design information is well managed and CDM 2015 compliant.
• Contribute to continuous process improvement within Business Unit and Group Design Management.
• Review design pack submissions for technical compliance, quality and completeness.
• Develop and assist planners with maintaining design and engineering aspects of programmes.
• Monitor procurement of services/equipment to the Procurement function.
• Coordinate with Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers on constructability and permanent works.
• Understand and influence contracts with Design Consultants regarding fees, services, programme, liabilities and warranties.
• Review consultant payment applications and pass to contract surveyor.

A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Engineering Manager:

• Lead the engineering design delivery of existing major Transmission HV 132/275/400kV Substation new build and extension projects.


• Lead Design Management requirements at tender and/or Early Contractor Engagement stage and allocate resources as appropriate during tender, FEED, and detailed design stages.


• Integrate multiple engineering disciplines including HV Plant, Protection and Control and Civils from a mix of internal and external designers and OEMs.


• Undertake the role of Principal Design Representative on project(s) ensuring design information is being suitable managed to the various roles and compliant with the requirements of CDM 2015 Regulations.


• Involvement in the development of Business Unit and Group Design Management continual process improvement activities.


• Review design pack submissions as required for technical compliance, quality and completeness.


• Develop and assist the project Planners with maintaining the design and engineering aspect of programmes.


• Monitor and expedite key engineering programme issues including the procurement of services and equipment to the Business Unit Procurement function.


• Review and liaise with internal Temporary Works Coordinators and Designers to ensure appropriate consideration of constructability and required permanent works.


• Ensure an understanding of, and an influence on the contracts Design Consultants are working under including their fees, schedule of services, programme, and liabilities and warranties.


• Review and comment the payment applications from consultants and pass to the contract surveyor for processing and payment.
