Job summary

Wise is seeking a senior backend/lead engineer to mentor a team of backend and web engineers. You will collaborate with Product to shape the next features and help evolve the platform that enables international payments for millions of customers worldwide.

Based in London, the role offers a competitive salary (£105k–£135k), RSUs, and Wise benefits. You should have experience with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and a track record of delivering scalable systems.

• Experience with relational and non-relational databases; query optimisation and schema design is a plus.

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience leading teams and expanding products through ongoing growth

• Familiarity with common design and architectural patterns, and a focus on clean, performant, well-tested code

• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation, and schema design is a plus
• Knowledge of Java and Spring Boot, and experience with a messaging system such as Kafka, is a plus
• Willingness to participate in the critical-services on-call rotation, normally every 6–10 weeks
