Job description
Engineering Director – Overhead Transmission Lines

Up to £125,000 plus bonus, car allowance and long-term profit share

UK based (Remote - applicants must be based in the UK)

A fast growing international energy technology business is expanding further into the UK and is seeking a senior engineering leader to lead its overhead transmission line capability.

The company develops advanced solutions that help electricity networks increase capacity, overcome clearance and routing constraints and improve asset performance without major rebuilds. Their technology is already in use across Asia, Australia and the USA, with the UK now a key growth market.

The Role

Act as the senior technical authority for overhead transmission line engineering in the region, taking ownership of technical decisions and standards as the business scales.

Lead and oversee technical assessment, modelling and design activity for overhead line projects, with a particular focus on capacity uprates, network upgrades and constrained routes.

Work closely with electricity utilities, EPCs and engineering consultancies to understand network challenges and develop practical, optimised engineering solutions.

Provide technical leadership during early stage project development, including feasibility studies, pilot schemes, design optimisation and risk assessment.

Partner with the Global CTO and headquarters engineering teams to develop design concepts, application engineering approaches and technical proposals tailored to regional requirements.

Support business development activity by contributing technical insight in senior stakeholder meetings and helping translate client requirements into viable engineering solutions.

Prepare, review and approve technical documentation including analysis reports, drawings, specifications and technical inputs to bids and proposals.

Coordinate and manage external engineering consultants as required, ensuring quality, consistency and alignment with technical standards.

Support tender and proposal activity in collaboration with regional leadership and global teams, providing technical input through bid development and clarification stages.

Provide technical support during early delivery phases once pilot or demonstration projects move into execution, ensuring continuity from design through implementation.

About You
  • Strong background in HV/EHV overhead line design.
  • Experience working with UK utilities or major transmission contractors or consultancies.
  • Comfortable engaging with senior technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Solutions focused and motivated by working in a high-growth environment.
  • Chartered status and TP141 experience are advantageous but not essential.
What’s on Offer
  • Up to £125,000 base salary
  • Bonus and car allowance
  • Five year profit share scheme
  • Clear pathway to Regional CTO
  • High autonomy and genuine technical influence
