Job summary

Amentum is seeking an Engineering Director to lead the delivery of the engineering programme, owning the engineering delivery and reviewing submittals. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to shape the programme, governance, and technical strategy, reporting to the Project Director.

The role emphasizes leadership, compliance with BMS procedures, and collaboration across functions to drive safe, high-integrity delivery on major infrastructure projects.

Job description

The Engineering Director is appointed by the Project Director to be responsible for the delivery of the engineering programme of work. The Engineering Director has "ownership" of the engineering delivery programme and provides the review / approval of Engineering submittals. As Engineering Director you'll provide Engineering support to the Project Director in developing the definition of the programme of work, collaborating with other project functions and is supported by a multi-disciplinary Engineering team.,

• Manage and coordinate the engineering function in accordance with the Business Management System (BMS) procedures (of which the primary responsibilities are listed here);
• Organise the engineering function to suit business requirements, defining reporting structure and responsibilities, and allocation of new work to appropriate teams;
• Accountable for development of an engineering strategy on how the engineering function will deliver to the strategy and business plan;
• Develop and maintain an engineering Operations Sales capability, providing bidding and prequalifying capability in conjunction with the PD, Group Directors and Head of Operational Sales;
• Accountable for the working environment and security aspects of engineering of services in conjunction with local office management;
• Contribute to the generation and subsequent achievement of G&A budgets as agreed with Operations management;
• Support the PD to deliver the annual business plan metrics;
• Support Heads of Discipline in managing staffing levels as required by the Integrated Management Schedule;
• Represent engineering function at Project Administrative Reviews (PARs) and other management meetings;
• Accountable for line management, mentoring, and career development activities being delivered in line with business policies;
• With support of the Training Manager, accountable for the development of an engineering training plan, and delivery of training activities in line with approved training budget and training plan;
• Accountable for developing an engineering recruitment plan, and recruitment and retention activities to meet the business need;
• Support Strategic Sales and Operational Sales bid reviews, approvals and activities, and support engineering business initiatives;
• Approval of bids (where applicable), proposals and other business development activities in accordance with procedures;
• Accountable for technical governance of engineering delivery in accordance with procedures, including Engineering Reviews on critical projects, targeted to address critical areas, or areas of concern on the project;
• Facilitate a monthly technical review process for any watchlist projects and drive resolution of issues; and
• Develop a Domain Focused Solution capability to align with programme Strategy and drive knowledge share and growth.
  
  Relevant higher education or time served equivalence, in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Chartered or Incorporated professional or corporate membership of a relevant professional body / institution.
• Fellowship of a relevant professional body / institution
• Membership of an accredited Project Management Institute, APM or equivalent.
• Extensive experience of engineering management of a multi-million pound workstream, project or delivery area in a regulated engineering / construction environment.
• Experience of the design, specification, and construction of critical infrastructure.
• Experience of working within a highly regulated environment.
• Experience of development of safety / security / environment cases for critical infrastructure.
• Proven experience of preparation of technical specifications, tender assessments, and quality planning.
• Significant experience of critically reviewing and appraising engineering documentation/specifications within a complex programme environment.
• Significant experience of regulatory practices within safety critical industries around the world, and a strong understanding of Quality and Environmental Control.
