Overview

As an Engineering Capability Manager, you'll be at the heart of shaping the future of engineering within one of the UK's most critical defence and infrastructure environments. This is a unique opportunity to lead the development of our engineering organisation – driving capability, innovation, and continuous improvement across people, processes, and tools. Day‑to‑day, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring our engineering teams are equipped to deliver complex, large‑scale projects that support national defence and nuclear safety. Your work will directly contribute to the design, construction, and maintenance of nuclear and conventional submarines and facilities – making a lasting impact on national security and your own career development.

Responsibilities
  • Leading the development of engineering capability, including recruitment, succession planning, and graduate programmes
  • Overseeing the implementation and improvement of engineering processes, tools, and training
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives across people, process, and technology
  • Representing Devonport Engineering across sector and global teams
  • Advising on the development and deployment of BIM toolsets and learning from experience frameworks
Essential Experience
  • Leading technical teams in large‑scale, complex facility design projects
  • Designing and justifying nuclear‑classified engineering solutions
  • Managing engineering capability development across people, processes, and tools
  • Applying engineering design and safety practices across multiple disciplines
  • Planning and managing engineering projects, including budgeting and specification
Qualifications
  • A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status, registered with the Engineering Council
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
