An excellent opportunity has arisen for a commercially focused Engineering Buyer to join the London office of an established international group operating across more than seven countries.

Working within a small, internationally focused procurement team, you will source engineered spare parts, machinery components and assemblies for major manufacturing organisations across the Middle East. Your customers will operate within sectors including food and beverage, confectionery, canning, edible oils, sugar refining, cement and power generation.

This is a varied role combining technical purchasing, international sourcing, supplier development, commercial negotiation and customer relationship management. You will procure products from established OEMs and specialist suppliers across the UK, Europe and Asia.

The Role

As Engineering Buyer, you will manage procurement requirements from initial customer enquiry through to supplier selection, commercial negotiation and contract placement.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the principal point of contact between key international customers and the engineering procurement team.
  • Understanding technical requirements and translating them into accurate supplier enquiries.
  • Sourcing engineering spare parts, machinery components and assemblies from OEMs and specialist manufacturers.
  • Identifying, evaluating and developing suppliers capable of meeting technical, quality, commercial and logistical requirements.
  • Obtaining and assessing quotations based on specification compliance, cost, lead time and delivery terms.
  • Negotiating pricing, payment terms and conditions of purchase.
  • Establishing commercial agreements that improve cost control, purchasing performance and profitability.
  • Managing supplier relationships professionally and consistently.
  • Entering and maintaining enquiries, quotations, contracts and purchasing information within the company’s systems.
  • Supporting project-based procurement requirements where necessary.
  • Visiting key customers and suppliers in the UK and internationally.
  • Sharing knowledge and providing guidance to less experienced members of the team.
About You

You will be an experienced engineering or technical buyer with strong commercial judgement and a proven ability to source products within an international manufacturing environment.

To be considered, you should offer:

  • Approximately three to five years’ experience in engineering, technical or manufacturing procurement.
  • Experience purchasing engineered spare parts, components, assemblies, machinery or related technical products.
  • Strong supplier sourcing, evaluation and commercial negotiation skills.
  • A practical understanding of technical specifications, engineering documentation and customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of international purchasing, logistics and Incoterms.
  • The ability to manage multiple enquiries, quotations and contracts simultaneously.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-management abilities.
  • The confidence to work with customers, suppliers and colleagues across different cultures and international markets.
  • A degree in engineering, science or another relevant technical discipline, supported by practical industry experience.

Experience in any of the following areas would be particularly advantageous:

  • Food and beverage or wider FMCG manufacturing.
  • Process equipment, packaging machinery or industrial spare parts.
  • Sugar, cement, edible-oil or power-generation equipment.
  • Purchasing directly from European or Asian OEMs.
  • Low-cost-country sourcing.
  • Supporting customers or projects within the Middle East.
  • Project procurement.
  • ERP purchasing systems, particularly SAP Business One.
Why Apply?

This position offers the opportunity to:

  • Join an established and internationally active engineering business.
  • Manage technically varied procurement requirements across several manufacturing sectors.
  • Develop relationships with major customers, OEMs and specialist suppliers.
  • Gain further exposure to international sourcing and project procurement.
