About the role
Band 6 ($88,420 to $113,170 plus super and benefits)

We are seeking a strategic focused Planning Engineer to lead in the development of long-term asset management planning, monitoring, analysis, reporting and improving asset performance in adherence with technical standards.

Key Responsibility Areas
  • Lead water and wastewater planning and modelling—including growth planning, options analysis, concept design, hydraulic modelling, demand forecasting, and system capacity/augmentation assessments.
  • Provide technical advice for system design, capital works projects, asset management plans, operations, maintenance programs, and failure‑mode investigations.
  • Support strategic asset management by contributing to asset policies, strategies, lifecycle planning, and maintaining integrity and accuracy of asset data across AMIS, WHMS and GIS.
  • Monitor and support capital programs—including prioritisation, planning and allocation of annual and five‑year Capex and Opex programs.
  • Analyse network and operational performance using SCADA and plant history data to drive improvements, develop predictive failure insights, and support research into system performance and failures.
  • Promote organisational excellence by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental systems, and fostering innovation, initiative and teamwork.
Qualifications and Experience
  • The candidate is required to have a tertiary qualification in engineering leading to admission to the Institute of Engineers (Australia) for professionally qualified engineers.
  • Substantial experience in water & wastewater planning.
  • Proven experience in asset strategy, asset management systems and asset management information systems.
  • Substantial experience in the application of SCADA, water or sewer modelling systems.
  • A current driver’s licence suitable for Victoria.
  • Knowledge of current developments and regulations applying to the water industry including a working knowledge and understanding of the Water Act (1989) and associated Acts applicable to the water industry.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of strategic asset management standards applying to the water industry and all relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Proven experience working with Asset Management Information Systems (AMIS), SCADA, GIS, water and sewer models and their use within an infrastructure or facilities management environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic decisions, advice and direction in relation to planning.
  • The ability to prepare complex written reports, strategies, policy and procedures.
