Job summary

Chesterfield Poultry in Doncaster is seeking an experienced Engineer to deliver maintenance and reliability activities across the site. You will perform reactive, corrective and planned preventative maintenance to keep machinery operating safely and efficiently, supporting production performance and continuous improvement.

Key duties include performing repairs, completing PPMs, managing spares, ensuring Health and Food Safety standards, and communicating effectively with colleagues to meet KPIs.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a 4-year approved technical training programme.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in mechanical/electrical repair and maintenance.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Food manufacturing experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out engineering repairs, corrective maintenance, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across the site.
  • Complete tasks generated from audits, work requests, and PPM follow-ups.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment meet site standards, escalating issues where necessary.
  • Manage personal workload and complete scheduled tasks to required standards.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping across all engineering work areas.
  • Apply Health & Safety and Food Safety standards to all work undertaken.
  • Manage the Health & Safety compliance of external contractors, ensuring work areas are left clean and safe.
  • Support environmental compliance requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with management and other departments regarding breakdowns and engineering activities.
  • Challenge issues constructively and professionally.
  • Control and manage spare parts ordering to ensure effective stock levels.
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold site standards for engineering assets.

The Engineer is responsible for delivering effective engineering repair, maintenance, and reliability activities across the site. Working as part of the engineering team, the role ensures machinery and equipment operate safely and efficiently through reactive, corrective, and planned preventative maintenance. The Engineer supports operational performance, contributes to continuous improvement, and maintains high standards of safety, communication, and housekeeping.

Duties
Engineering Maintenance & Repairs
  • Carry out engineering repairs, corrective maintenance, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across the site.
  • Complete tasks generated from audits, work requests, and PPM follow-ups.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment meet site standards, escalating issues where necessary.
Workload & Shift Management
  • Manage personal workload and complete scheduled tasks to required standards.
  • Ensure effective handover of outstanding work between shifts.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping across all engineering work areas.
Safety & Compliance
  • Apply Health & Safety and Food Safety standards to all work undertaken.
  • Manage the Health & Safety compliance of external contractors, ensuring work areas are left clean and safe.
  • Support environmental compliance requirements.
Team & Communication
  • Support colleagues within the team and contribute to achieving KPIs and performance targets.
  • Communicate effectively with management and other departments regarding breakdowns and engineering activities.
  • Challenge issues constructively and professionally.
Stock & Equipment Management
  • Control and manage spare parts ordering to ensure effective stock levels.
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold site standards for engineering assets.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Completion of a 4-year approved technical training programme.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in mechanical/electrical repair and maintenance.
  • Alternatively, a suitable combination of apprenticeship/education and experience that provides equivalent skills and knowledge.
  • At least 5 years' experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Food manufacturing experience is advantageous but not essential.
