Job summary

Rolls‑Royce SMR is recruiting an Engineer – Electrical Systems Analysis to support electrical system modelling, studies and data production for the SMR nuclear power plant. You will apply electrical engineering principles and structured analysis to underpin design development and safety case substantiation.

You will work under experienced engineers to build capability in power systems analysis, safety case evidence generation and lifecycle verification, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or closely related discipline.
Experience in electrical engineering within regulated or complex environments is preferred.
Ability to develop and interpret electrical system models with guidance.
Experience supporting concept evaluation, design development or substantiation.

Responsibilities

Support development and maintenance of electrical system models used for analysis and design maturation.
Develop and quality-check electrical datasets, including load and cable schedules.
Perform electrical studies using agreed methods, assumptions and tools.
Produce calculations, assumption records and technical outputs for reviews.

Role Title: Engineer – Electrical Systems Analysis

About the Team:

The Electrical Systems team is responsible for defining and delivering the electrical architecture that underpins the SMR power station. Through modelling, analysis and technical substantiation, the team supports concept development, design optimisation and safety case delivery across the entire plant lifecycle.

Electrical Systems Analysis provides the evidence needed to assess performance, validate design decisions and ensure compliance across both safety‑classified and non‑classified electrical systems.

About the Role:

As an Engineer – Electrical Systems Analysis, you will support the delivery of electrical system analysis for the SMR nuclear power plant, working as part of the Electrical Systems team to develop models, perform studies and produce technical datasets.

You will contribute to concept evaluation, design development and technical substantiation by applying sound electrical engineering principles, structured analysis methods and clear technical reporting. Working under the guidance of experienced electrical engineers, you will build capability in power systems analysis, systems engineering and safety case support while contributing to the development of one of the most exciting engineering programmes in the UK.

We’ll Need You To:

Support the development and maintenance of electrical system models used for analysis and design maturation
Develop, maintain and quality check electrical datasets, including load schedules and cable schedules
Perform electrical studies using agreed methods, assumptions and tools
Produce calculations, assumptions records and technical outputs suitable for engineering review
Contribute evidence and analysis results to support design reviews and design development activities
Identify assumptions, limitations and uncertainties within engineering studiesSupport concept evaluation and electrical architecture development
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to capture requirements and assess design options
Support verification and substantiation activities across the electrical systems lifecycle
Develop capability in electrical systems analysis and safety case evidence generation

Key Skills Required:

Experience in electrical engineering within a regulated or complex engineering environment
Practical experience or exposure to electrical power system analysis
Ability to develop and interpret electrical system models with appropriate technical guidance
Experience supporting concept evaluation, design development or design substantiation activities
Awareness of electrical engineering disciplines such as: Electrical distribution systems Protection systems Earthing systems Battery systems Power generation systems
Experience using engineering analysis tools and interpreting engineering outputs
Understanding of systems engineering principles and requirements traceability
Awareness of configuration control and technical assurance principles
Ability to communicate technical information clearly through reports, calculations and presentations
Comfortable working within multidisciplinary engineering teams and engaging with stakeholders
Strong commitment to professional development and continuous learning

Previous experience within the nuclear industry is beneficial but not essential. We welcome candidates from Renewables, Power Generation, Defence, Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Utilities and other highly regulated industries.

Salary and Package:

The salary band for this role will be between £42,000 – £55,150 dependent on the skills, values and knowledge you bring. There may be flexibility in exceptional cases, and the role may develop further over time.
