Job description

Solihull Council is entering an exciting phase in its flood risk management journey, and we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to play a pivotal part in shaping our response to flood risk around the borough, while driving forward the delivery of our wider flood risk and drainage agenda.

We are proud to be a Council that is small enough to care, but big enough to make a difference. Our integrated Highway Drainage and Lead Local Flood Authority team has a strong track record of delivering impactful schemes that have improved the lives of residents across the borough—particularly those affected by flooding. We have successfully secured significant funding to design and implement highway drainage and flood resilience schemes in recent years.

As part of a team contributing to major infrastructure and growth initiatives—including High-Speed 2 and the housing expansion outlined in our draft Local Plan—you will work collaboratively with developers and other Risk Management Authorities to help realise our vision: ensuring that everyone in Solihull has an equal opportunity to be healthier, happier, safer, and more prosperous.

We are looking for someone with proven flood risk and drainage experience, who can maintain the momentum of our high-value programmes and projects. You will be confident in planning and delivering long-term initiatives, solving complex problems, and applying sound judgement. Commercial awareness will be key, as you identify and maximise business opportunities to enhance our services.

Your interpersonal skills will be one of your key strengths, enabling you to engage, influence and build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and communicate technical information clearly to varied audiences.

Benefits
  • A unique opportunity to shape the way we work and deliver meaningful change
  • Involvement in a diverse portfolio of innovative and high-impact projects
  • A supportive and forward-thinking working environment
  • An attractive employee offer including a range of flexible working options, an extensive wellbeing offer, as well as attractive staff benefits including staff discounts and access to the Local Government pension scheme.

If you are passionate about making a difference and ready to take the next step in your career, we would love to hear from you.
