Job description

We are looking to recruit a Senior Engineer with a strong consultancy mindset and demonstrable capability in a range of fluid flow, thermodynamics or heat transfer related topics. Element are committed to the continued development of our UK‑based, permanent staff capability for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermofluids. The position can be based in our Derby or Bristol offices, with hybrid/flexible working arrangements available. Your main responsibilities, as part of a thriving and busy team, are as follows:

Responsibilities
  • Carry out a range of technical projects and analyses, with supervision from more experienced staff to meet clients’ needs and expectations.
  • Support business development activities with new and existing clients, including identification of client needs and creation of proposals and project plans.
  • Manage and lead the technical execution of assigned projects, including the work of any assigned staff and business reporting on project progress and delivery.
  • Participate in technical delivery and client relationship management.
  • Support the development of more junior staff through day‑to‑day support and advice.
  • Integrate and engage with our positive team culture, adhering to Element’s core values – care, integrity, and progress.
Qualifications
  • Degree: Bachelor’s (2.1 or above), Master’s or PhD in engineering, science or applied mathematics (preferably with a strong CFD or thermofluids component).
  • Experience delivering engineering analysis in an engineering company or consultancy setting.
  • Project management experience is desirable.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in solving fluid flow, thermodynamics and heat transfer problems, including multiphase, reactive, dispersion or blast flows.
  • Experience in aerospace, nuclear, renewable energy, oil & gas or defence sectors is a benefit.
  • Knowledge of commercial and open‑source CFD tools such as STAR‑CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, Amesim, Flomaster and OpenFOAM, with the ability to extend them using user functions.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, VBA, C#, or C/C++ is an advantage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Actively working toward Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) status.
  • Flexible thinker who enjoys challenge and works well with unfamiliar problems.
  • Enjoys client and colleague interaction and takes responsibility for delivery.

UK‑based role – position can be based in Derby or Bristol offices with hybrid/flexible working arrangements.
