Job summary

Amey in Belfast invites applications for a permanent Structures Engineer (Bridges) to join our Consulting Structures Team. You will lead projects, mentor junior engineers and deliver robust bridge and structural solutions from quotation through handover, ensuring quality, cost and programme targets are met.

The role requires strong experience in structures, proficiency with tools such as LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, and good client liaison.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject.
• Chartered status with ICE or IStructE is desirable.
• Developed experience inStructures field with ability to lead.
• Proficient with structural analysis software and CAD tools.
• Good understanding of CDM and risk assessment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team and deliver technically sound engineering solutions.
• Take ownership of projects from start to finish, from quotation to handover.
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation.
• Oversee junior staff and mentor their development.
• Contribute to bid preparation and work-winning activities.
• Ensure health and safety practices are followed within the team.

The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Structures(Bridges) Engineer to join our Consulting Structures Team in Belfast. With shared office space in our Belfast office and the ability to work remotely we invite applications from across the Northern Ireland.

Our 130 strong Belfast Design Hub delivers a range of local, national and international projects for clients including Department for Infrastructure Roads, Translink, National Highways, Transport Scotland and Network Rail. Our multidisciplinary team encapsulates Highway Engineering, Bridge/Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, River & Coastal Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Traffic Engineering/Transport Planning, as well as being the BIM Centre of Excellence for Amey. Responsibilities

As a Structures Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of Structures schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior engineers and technicians.

• Leading a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
• Taking ownership and leading projects from start to finish, from preparing the quotation all the way to handover.
• Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
• Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
• Contributing to the professional development of junior staff and acting as a Delegated Engineer.
• Liaising with Client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries.
• Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of their workload.
• Contributing to the preparation of bids and general work winning function.
• Drive effective Health and Safety practices within the team.

What You Will Bring To Us

• Developed experience and expertise within Structures field, probably gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
• An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and Client’s requirements.
• Takes ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables and can check deliverables to a reasonable standard.
• Very good working knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (e.g LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
• Demonstrates good commercial awareness.
• Has a good understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
• Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.
• Demonstrates a good understanding of interface management, and ensures own deliverables align with deliverables produced by other disciplines.
• Incorporated or Chartered status with the ICE or IstructE. or an equivalent professional licence gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned is desirable and may be essential on particular contracts.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
