Job description

MRS (Machine Readable Specifications) sits at the heart of how Arm develops architecture. We define and evolve the definitive machine-readable source of architecture content and the tooling around it, so that architecture can be expressed consistently, validated automatically, and consumed reliably across Arm.

Job Description:

This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to join MRS and help shape Arm's strategy around machine-readable data. Our mission is to make Arm architecture more accessible by providing a consistent way to express/consume data about it.

We’re looking for a forward-thinking and curious individual to work on “systems that build systems”: a platform that allow users to build the tools that they need.

You will collaborate with passionate and inclusive people in a role where your work quickly becomes a multiplier for other teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain core tooling and libraries that power Arm’s machine-readable architecture ecosystem.
  • Implement features and fixes spanning data modelling, validation/testing, transforms/generation, and publication/release workflows.
  • Review and guide others’ work; write clear documentation, raise engineering standards and reduce long-term maintenance cost.
Required Skills and Experience :
  • Solid software engineering fundamentals and experience (we use Python heavily internally, but any high-level language is fine) and ability to learn new domains quickly.
  • Comfort working with structured data and engineering for correctness (schemas/models, validation, transformations, test strategy).
  • Clear written and spoken English, the ability to explain technical decisions concisely and to ask questions early.
  • Ability to own complex problem areas with minimal guidance and produce reliable outcomes.
  • Evidence of strong intrinsic motivation in computing (open source contributions are a plus; meaningful personal projects also count).
“Nice To Have”:
  • Track record in open source or comparable “serious engineering” outside day job.
  • Experience with schema evolution/backward compatibility and a bias toward automation.
  • Familiarity with architecture ecosystems (compilers, verification, modelling) and/or spec/tooling pipelines.
In Return:

You’ll get the support and environment to grow quickly: friendly, high-calibre teammates, relevant technical ownership, and work with broad visibility and impact. Arm offers a competitive benefits package and a hybrid working approach.

Details of what this means for each role will be shared upon application. In some cases, the flexibility we can offer is limited by local legal, regulatory, tax, or other considerations, and where this is the case, we will collaborate with you to find the best solution. Please talk to us to find out more about what this could look like for you.
