The role involves engine watchkeeping, routine maintenance, and general machinery-space duties aboard a ship, with joining in Europe and sign-off in French Polynesia.

Ideal candidates should hold STCW 95 and ASE A-III/5 certifications, with prior vessel experience and strong mechanical knowledge.

  • Perform general engine room maintenance: cleaning, painting, repairs.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of engine room and tools.
  • Inform on-duty Engineer when leaving the engine room.

Engine Operator (Shipboard)

Description

We are looking for experienced Engine Room Operators (Motormen) to join the cruise vessel EVRIMA on a temporary contract of approximately 90 days.

In addition to watchkeeping duties, the successful candidates will support the Engine Room team with routine maintenance, cleaning, painting, and general machinery-space duties.

Previous experience on board cruise vessels in a similar rank would be preferred.

Joining: Mid-October 2026 in Europe, potentially Monaco on 17 October

Contract: Approximately 90 days

Expected sign-off: Mid-January 2027 in French Polynesia

Position Summary
  1. Responsible to assist with the execution of routine checks of machinery, tanks, bilge and pump rooms along with the daily operation and maintenance of machinery.
Reporting Structure
  1. Reporting to the Staff Engineer and on duty Engineer.
Safety Duties
  1. Participates in crew safety drills according to instructions.
  2. Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
  3. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
  4. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
  1. Valid STCW 95 certification.
  2. Valid ASE A-III/5.
  3. Good knowledge and operation of the works on the Lathe machine.
  4. Good welding skills (electric, gas welding).
  5. Good knowledge of mechanics, operation and maintenance of vessel machinery and mechanical equipment.
  6. Experience on vessels in an equivalent position.
  7. Physically and medically fit.
  8. Moral integrity is required.

Language requirements: Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in the Engine Control Room, Engine spaces with noise, light traffic, distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Stands engine watch as instructed by the Staff Engineer.
  2. Continuously supervises and inspects machinery spaces during watch and promptly reports any deficiencies or malfunctions to the on duty engineer.
  3. The Motorman is responsible for maintenance and repair of the following equipment, under direct supervision of the daily 1st Engineer / Hotel Engineer (to include but not limited to the following):
    1. Maintenance of Diesel Generators and Main Engines.
    2. Cylinder head maintenance and overhaul.
    3. Turbocharger maintenance.
    4. Engine main bearings, big end bearings and small end bearings maintenance/overhaul.
    5. Engine attached pumps maintenance and repair.
    6. Maintenance and calibration of the fuel injection valves.
    7. Maintenance and calibration of the fuel injection pumps.
    8. Maintenance and repair of pipes, valves, heat exchangers and filters for fuel system, lube oil system, cooling systems, charging air system and exhaust gas system.
    9. Inspection and cleaning of hot boxes.
    10. Cleaning of the fuel filters, lubricating oil filters and air filters.
    11. Any other maintenance related to Diesel Generators and Main Engines.
    12. Maintenance of Lifeboats/Tenders/Rescue boats.
    13. Inspection and maintenance of engines, including fuel system (low and high pressure), lubrication system, cooling system (sea water and fresh water) and exhaust gas system.
    14. Inspection and maintenance of gearboxes/inverters.
    15. Inspection and maintenance of propeller shaft sealing.
  4. To be part of the technical loading team during intake of provisions.
  5. To provide technical assistance during the ship’s tendering operations.
  6. Assists with general maintenance (to include but not limited to the following):
    1. Cleaning.
    2. Painting.
    3. Repairs.
  7. Keeps the Chief Engineer, Staff Engineer and duty Engineer promptly and fully informed of all problems, matters of significance and any issues that may compromise the ships safety and any deficiencies found in the machinery or equipment.
  8. Must be competent in using the internal communications systems and have good knowledge of the engine room alarms.
  9. Responsible for informing the on duty Engineer whenever leaving the engine room to perform duties elsewhere.
  10. Keeping supervisors fully informed of the progress of any work undertaken and any defects or problems in his allocated area of responsibility.
  11. Responsible for keeping the engine room and all other machinery areas clean, along with all parts and tools used.
  12. Accountable for ensuring that Company, Public Health, National and International standards are maintained and meeting requirements. Reporting to the Staff Engineer any instances where the ship is unable or fails to comply.
  13. Observes and enforces uniform and grooming standards according to Company policies.
  14. Ensures that other team members are informed and updated on the occurrences during the watch.
  15. Practices good people management, maintaining proper conduct within the Engine department and other departments around the ship.
  16. General engine room and all other duties as assigned by supervisors.
