Job summary

Serco is seeking an Engagement Coordinator at HMP Dovegate in Staffordshire. You’ll be the primary contact for prisoners on your houseblock, supporting access to Education, Skills and Work to aid rehabilitation and progression.

In this role you will monitor engagement, develop personalised plans, work with multidisciplinary teams, maintain records, and support digital learning initiatives to improve participation and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting engagement, learning, rehabilitation or work-based programmes.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience of managing individual cases and monitoring progress.
  • Good digital literacy and ability to use technology to support learning.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with prisoners to understand aspirations and encourage participation in education and work activities.
  • Monitor attendance and engagement, providing timely interventions to support progression.
  • Develop personalised engagement plans to address barriers and learning needs.
  • Coordinate with Key Workers, Prison Offender Managers, mentors and healthcare teams.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor trends and provide insights to improve programmes.
  • Support digital learning initiatives and re-engage individuals at risk of disengagement.

As an Engagement Coordinator in our Justice and Immigration team, you’ll help people in custody access education, skills and work opportunities that support rehabilitation, personal growth and successful progression. Your work will have purpose, creating positive outcomes for individuals while contributing to safer communities and a better future.

You’ll be the primary point of contact for prisoners on your allocated houseblock, helping them overcome barriers to participation and encouraging meaningful engagement in Education, Skills and Work activities. By building trust, providing tailored support and working collaboratively with colleagues, you’ll create impactful solutions that support rehabilitation and help individuals realise their potential.

What You’ll Do As An Engagement Coordinator
  • Build positive relationships with prisoners to understand their aspirations, identify barriers to engagement and encourage participation in Education, Skills and Work activities.
  • Monitor attendance and engagement levels, providing timely interventions to address non-attendance and support progression.
  • Develop and review personalised engagement plans to help individuals overcome challenges such as literacy difficulties, anxiety, trauma or additional learning needs.
  • Work closely with Key Workers, Prison Offender Managers, peer mentors, healthcare teams and other specialists to coordinate effective support.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor trends and provide insights that help improve programmes and increase participation.
  • Support digital learning initiatives and work with behaviour management teams to re-engage individuals who may be at risk of disengagement.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to motivate and positively influence others.
  • Experience of managing individual cases, monitoring progress and delivering tailored interventions.
  • Good digital literacy skills and confidence using technology to support learning and engagement.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and working with people who have complex needs.

Vetting And Checks

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
