Job summary

Octopus Energy Group, part of Octopus Energy Trading, is seeking a Data Scientist to join our team to build pipelines and forecast electricity demand and renewables for the GB intraday market, with expansion to Western Europe. You’ll work with data across trading, renewables and grid fundamentals, applying ML techniques and robust forecasting methods.

• Experience with Python essential.
• Good understanding of forecasting techniques and ability to build simple baselines and iterate quickly.
• Ability to communicate approach, strengths and limitations clearly.
• Able to understand commercial and industry concepts quickly.
• Team player excited about ownership across multiple projects and tools.

Responsibilities

• Exploring data needs to effectively trade the GB intraday power market.
• Build, improve and maintain models forecasting electricity demand and renewables (GB focused, expanding to Western Europe).
• Identify high-quality data sources to base forecasts on.
• Develop forecasting framework and tooling; automate forecasting processes with checks and alerts.
• Leverage forecasting models to enhance price forecasts.
• Collaborate with Trading, Renewables, Flexibility and other teams to share knowledge and data.
